Wissensdiskurse über Armut bei Autorinnen des Vormärz // Discourse and Knowledge on Poverty in the Works of Women Writers of Vormärz

Completed

Description

The project compares literary depictions of the phenomenon „poverty“ with those in the areas of social policy, political theory and historiography. According to the broad, culture-studies approach, discourses of knowledge are constructions which influence each other and are shaped by the historical moment. The analysis deals with established questions of the research field „Literature and Discourses and Knowledge“: literary strategies in fiction and science, their interplay, conditions of knowledge production and reception, the role of the genre in the constitution and transfer of knowledge. The goal of the dissertation is to contribute to the research of the Vormärz-epoch, with emphasis of „Discourses and Knowledge“ with the topic of poverty. The relations between literature and natural sciences have received a considerable amount of scientific attention. This project aims to point out the fact that the field of social policy or political theory can also be used for fruitful comparison. Lastly, it also aims to broaden the scarce theoretically funded research on women writers in the first half of the 19th century.
