Vielfalt in den Fachkulturen der Physik – Eine Fallstudie am FB Physik der FU Berlin
ActiveDescription
Physics is one of the natural and technical science subjects with a particularly low proportion of women, even at the entry level. The low proportion of women decreases with each step on the academic career ladder, a phenomenon known as vertical segregation. This pattern of decreasing representation with each academic hierarchical level applies not only to the category of gender, but also to other diversity categories such as ethnic origin, social background, sexual orientation and others. The project will survey the past career paths and future career strategies of early career researchers at the Department of Physics at Freie Universität Berlin and investigate whether and to what extent their experiences in workplace cultures have been influenced by their possible affiliation with minorities in physics, including gender minorities, ethnic minorities and first generation academics. It will determine whether there were any potential barriers that early career researchers may have experienced due to their membership of a minority group, what challenges they have to overcome during their career, but also whether and what opportunities and career-enhancing options are available to early career researchers in the department from their perspective.
