Kurzbeschreibung

There is a growing interest in the role of Cameroonian social networks in the formation of Home Town Associations (HTAs) and Rotating Savings and Credit Associations (ROSCAS) commonly known in the community as “njangi”. This raises the issue of identity and belonging, different networks and social ties within these associations such as exchange of ideas, reciprocity, trust and solidarity. Very little attention is been paid to how migrants, especially women, create and access existing networks or establish new ties in the host or receiving society. My focus is on the role of women within both types of association. In examining the role of women and the different types of social support derived through these associations, this research aims to contribute to the understanding of social networks in HTAs and ROSCAS and the patterns of migration, information circulation, settlement, and links with “home” (Cameroon).
